Dancehall music continues to get a fight overseas with claims that the genre incites violence.

After being banned at a London nightclub and hotel in Trinidad and Tobago recently, Barbados’ Minister of Culture, Stephen Lashley is now also calling for a ban on the popular genre, claiming that Dancehall incites violence and promotes reckless behaviour.

“I am indeed very concerned about the escalation of gun violence, and, in particular, the escalation of violent acts that have claimed the lives of so many persons already this year,” Lashley said.

He continued by saying, “I am equally concerned about the impact of certain types of dancehall music and videos, the impact that this is having on the minds of our citizens, especially our young people. I take this opportunity this evening to call on each and every one of us to take a stand on this reckless behaviour.”

Dancehall artistes and fans have since been sounding off on the matter online
